After the Oklahoma City show
There was a lot of buzz on the bus after last night's Oklahoma City show. It was an interesting concert from a performers standpoint. When we took the stage, there were a few quite noticeable empty places in the main seating area. Don't get me wrong, there were thousands of people there, but it's like looking out at your yard when you've worked hard to get a nice lawn. It is sometimes easier to notice the brown spots rather than all the healthy growth. And, as is usually the case, the arena was almost completely full by the time we finished the second song. I think it is harder for the audience to get into the show when there are still people coming in late. The same holds true for the performers. The Oklahoma audience was one that had to be 'won over' and sometime during the first set it happened. It was like someone turned the talent knob up to 11 and I heard some of the most amazing solo's ever. When I saw the enthusiasm that spilled over into the after show banter I knew that I wasn't the only one who felt it.It's funny. We're performing the same music each night, on the same stage with the same cues, but somehow each show takes on its own personality. I don't guess anyone knows what that personality will be until it comes out in the performance. One thing is for sure - the audience makes the difference.
