New Pics and Kansas Grass

I just posted a new set of pictures on my Photographs Page. We had a delayed sound check yesterday so there was time to take a few shots at rehearsal. The picture of Walter, Hussain, me, David and Pedro was taken by Alfreda on the bus last night, probably around 1am. We have our wireless on-the-go computer network running smoothly. Alfreda came to the back of the bus and laughed at all of us working online with our Powerbooks as we headed down the highway toward Kansas. We all scooted together so she could snap the picture. I think Apple owes us an endorsement . . .. Hey Apple! Anyone listening?!?!?

The last picture I posted may seem like a non sequitur. It's mostly to remind me of a very pleasant long walk I took this morning in Wichita. The flat terrain here reminds me of my old home town, Kennett, Mo. where on a windy day like today and there's nothing to stop the cool breeze as it rushes across the fields. The effect of nearly constant wind over the winter is to bend and tangle fields of wheat and grass into a surface that resembles a giant mattress. I spent many spring hours as a child rolling on, jumping through and hiding under such grassy fields. The smell is so rich you can taste the grain.

I've spent too much time over the past couple of days inside, and the sunshine and cool air this morning lifted my spirits which are, as always, longing for home.
