Wichita to Omaha

Goodbye Wichita! The audience was great again last night and all the band members I talked too thought we had a good show. Yanni was in a really good mood this afternoon at soundcheck and went on and on about how proud he is of this band. I've said it before but it deserves saying again, it's good when the boss is happy.

Last night's 5 hour bus ride was the kind everyone dreads. It takes an hour or two to wind down from the show and then, for me anyway, even longer to convince your mind and body to relax and go to sleep in an environment full of people talking, music, mingled with road and wind noises. On a five hour trip you barely get to sleep and then you're rousted out of bed again as you reach the hotel. We walked into the hotel around 5-am today and then it takes a while to get back to sleep, if you can at all. Add to that, getting a room that already has people in it, or is under construction, or is still unmade from the last guests, or doesn't have heat etc. . . . - all of these things have happened to various people at different hotels. You never know when it's going to be your night to get to drag your tired self back down to the desk and ask for a key that actually works.

Tonight's trip will be better. It is only two and a half hours long so we'll all just stay up until we reach the hotel.

We're looking forward to a great show tonight here in Omaha, Nebraska. It is sold out and in a nearly new arena with great acoustics. After the show we drive to Kansas City for our fourth performance in a row. We'll get a day off on Monday to catch up on a little R&R.

If I ever start feeling sorry for myself on these multi-day runs of shows I just think about the crew. They don't get to go to a hotel at all. There's no time. They tear down the previous show, which takes part of the night, then get to the next time in order to set up again. They also work during the shows doing lighting, camera's etc.

I posted a couple of new pics on the Photographs Page.
